SSC CGL Posts Description- Power, Preference and Salary The notification for SSC CGL 2018 for various posts such as Auditor, Income Tax Officer and Sub Inspector is expected to be released in March 2018 on the official website. Around 9,000 vacancies will be filled through the exam.

The posts offered under SSC conducted Combined Graduate Level recruitment exam are divided in four groups- A, B, C and D.  The posts under Group A are Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Account Officer. The posts under Group B are Assistant Section Officer in CSS, IB, Railway, MEA and AFHQ, Assistant (SFIO and Mines), Inspector of Income Tax, Inspector (Central excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer), Examiner, Inspector, Sub- Inspector, Divisional Accountant (CAG). The post under Group C is Junior Statistical Officer and the posts under Group D are Auditor, Accountant/Junior Accountant, Senior Secretariat Assistant and Tax Assistant.

We have created a preference list for various posts in the best possible way but every candidate should choose their own preferences in accordance with their career goals.

Assistant Audit Officer (AAO)

AAO post has been recently added in SSC CGL and it happens to be highest in preference order because of the work and salary.  As AAO you will be posted under the Indian Audit & Accounts Department.  As the name of the posts suggests the work profile of AAO will be to assist the Audit Officer and Sr. Audit Officer in conducting various departmental audits. It is a gazette officer post.

You have a chance of promotion to the post of Audit officer in around 6-10 years and Sr. Audit Officer in after 2-4 years after that.

Inspector Examiner (CBEC)

Post code – M

The work profile of an Examiner will be clerical if you are posted in headquarters and examining work of goods imported or exported if you are posted in the field.  If we talk about the career path of the post, you will be promoted to Appraiser after 3 years and after that you can be promoted to Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner respectively.

Income Tax Inspector

Post code – J

As the name suggests your work will be inspecting income tax. In this post, you can be placed in assessment section or non- assessment section.  In the assessment section, you will have to assess the income tax charged on companies or people. If you will be placed non- assessment section, you will be a part of the raid teams.

The career growth involves promotion to Income Tax Officer (ITO) in 4-6 years, Assistant Commissioner Of income tax in 10-12 years and so on.

Assistant (MEA)

Post code – E

If appointed as an Assistant, you will have to do clerical and file related work such as examining documents. You will have to coordinate between various offices and will also have to examine the MOUs signed with other nations. If posted as a cipher, you will have to do coding/decoding.

This is only post under SSC CGL through which you can be posted outside India.

Talking about the career growth, you can be promoted to Section Officer in 4-5 years, after that Under Secretary, Secretary and so on.

Central Excise Inspector (CBEC)

If posted as Central Excise Inspector you will work under Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). The tasks involve formulating policies for levying and collecting customs and excise. If posted in office you will do normal file work and if posted in field, you will have to do tasks like monitoring exported goods.

You can be promoted to Superintendent, Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner and so on.

Preventive Officer Inspector (CBEC)

As a Preventive Officer Inspector, you will be doing normal clerical work if posted in headquarters and execution work such as prevention of smuggling and arrests if posted in field.

First promotion will be after 8 years to Superintendent if you clear the departmental exam.

Assistant Enforcement Officer (AEO)

It is a post in Enforcement Directorate. It checks money laundering activities in India. If posted in office, you will be doing normal file work and if posted in field, you will have a check on economic crimes in the country.

You can be promoted to Enforcement officer to in 4-6 years, after that Assistant Director, Deputy Director and so on.

Assistant (CVC)

As an Assistant in Central Vigilance Commission, you will have to contact respective departments and collect information of vigilance.

Promotion involves a Sectional officer in 7-8 years, after that Under Secretary, Deputy Secretary and so on.

Assistant (AFHQ)

It comes under Ministry of Defense. The basic nature of the work will be clerical, such as compilation work and various reports.

The career path includes promotion to Section Officer in 4 years, Deputy Director after 6 years and so on.

Assistant (Railways)

Post code – D

It comes under Ministry of Railways and offers discounted railway pass for travelling in India. The work involves clerical work of upper division clerk.

Assistant (IB)

In this post you will work under Intelligence Bureau which is under the Home Ministry. The work involves normal clerical work.

You can be promoted as a Sectional officer in 7-8 years, after that Under Secretary, Deputy Secretary and so on.

Assistant Section Officer (CSS)

Under this post, you can be appointed in various ministries. It involves normal clerical working and reporting to seniors. You will be posted In Delhi.

You can be promoted as a Sectional officer in 5-7 years, after that Under Secretary, Deputy Secretary and so on.

Sub Inspector (CBI)

It is the post of Sub inspector in chief investigating agency of our country i.e. Central Bureau of Investigation. It is mostly a field job. You will have to handle various criminal cases under this post.

You can be promoted to Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Additional Superintendent and so on.

Assistant (Other Ministries)

As the name suggests, the post involves appointment as an assistant in various other ministries such as Department of Personnel and Training, Parliamentary Affairs, etc.

You can be promoted as a Sectional officer after that Under Secretary, Deputy Secretary and so on.

Divisional Accountant (CAG)

It is an accountant level job which comes under Comptroller and Auditor General of India. The basic work is to act as a financial advisor to different departments.

You can be promoted to the post of Divisional Accountant I, Divisional Accountant II and so on.

Inspector (Narcotics)

The basic work is to conduct periodic checks in companies, to check smuggling of any banned drugs, etc. You can be promoted to Superintendent of Narcotics, Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and so on.

Sub Inspector (NIA)

It is a sub inspector post in National Investigation Agency (NIA) which mainly involves field job. As a Sub Inspector, you will work to counter terrorism with Law Enforcement agencies.

You can be promoted to Inspector in 4-5 years, Superintendent, Assistant Commissioner and so on.

Statistical Investigator

If you are posting in office, you will be doing normal clerical work like making reports, compiling, etc.  If posted in field, you will have to conduct various surveys in socio economic and agricultural statistics.

Inspector (Department of Posts)

As an Inspector in Department of Posts, you will have to monitor the workings of post offices in your area.  You will be also responsible for doing investigation in case of loss and fraud cases.

You can be promoted to Assistant Superintendent, Postal Superintendent and so on.

Auditor C&AG

As an auditor, you will be responsible for auditing expense reports of state departments (C&AG). You will be promoted to Senior Auditor after 3 years and after that AAO if you clear department exam.

As an auditor, you will be responsible for auditing expense reports of accounts of defense forces (CGDA). You will be promoted to Senior Auditor after 3 years and after that AAO if you clear department exam.

As an auditor, you will be responsible for auditing expense reports of General accounts of the country. You will be promoted to Senior Auditor after 3 years and after that AAO if you clear department exam.

Tax Assistant CBEC

It is an assistant level post in CBEC. If posted in office, you will be doing normal clerical work. Other than that you can posted as a PA of commissioners.

Career path involves promotion to Executive Assistant, Excise Inspector, Assistant Commissioner and so on.

Tax Assistant CBDT

In this post, you can be placed in assessment section or non- assessment section.  In assessment section you will be required to assess income tax of an individual or a company while in non- assessment section, you will do the normal clerical work.

You can be promoted to Sr. Tax Assistant, Income Tax Inspector, ITO and Assistant Commissioner.

Compiler (Registrar General of India)

It is an assistant level post. You will work in various departments under Registrar General of India.  The work will mainly involve clerical working, drafting and compiling reports.
